Privacy

Dunno is a game you play with your friends in your browser, run by Tektology. This page says what the game keeps about you, why, and for how long. There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and nothing is sold or handed to anyone.

Your account

Your callsign, which is your name in the game; the number of the tektology.com account it belongs to; your role (player or admin); and the date it was made. An admin can add a short note to an account. There are no passwords.

Signing in

Dunno has no sign in of its own. You sign in once at tektology.com, with Google, Steam or a passkey, and that one account works in every Tektology game. When you open the game, it asks tektology.com, inside the server, which account your sign in belongs to: its number, its callsign and whether it is approved. Nothing else about the sign in reaches the game.

What tektology.com keeps to sign you in (the Google or Steam account it is linked to, and the public half of each passkey) is kept by tektology.com, not by this game. What Google and Steam keep is covered by Google’s privacy policy and Valve’s privacy policy.

Your game record

Every answer and call you make in a game, how fast it was and what it scored; every bet you place, its price and how it settled; your Chips and every change to them; which questions you have been shown, so they are not shown to you again; your settings; and when you played or watched.

Your callsign and your points are public on the leaderboard, and your callsign is shown in the room while you play, watch signed in, or back a player. Admins also see the player list, the bets and any question you report.

Cookies and this device

One cookie keeps you signed in, for 30 days or until you sign out. tektology.com sets it for all its games; Dunno reads it and sets none of its own. It does not track you anywhere else.

Your browser also keeps a few things for this device: a random id so a dropped connection comes back to the same seat, and the sound switch when you are not signed in. They stay on the device.

Logs and reports

The web server keeps an ordinary access log: your IP address, the time, the page asked for and your browser’s name. It is kept for 14 days, to run the site and to spot attacks.

Where it lives

Everything is on one server Tektology rents from DigitalOcean in New York. Every file the pages need comes from that server, so loading them tells no one else you were here. The game’s records are backed up every night; a copy is kept for up to two months.

Removing your account

Write to dunno@tektology.com from the email on your account, or with your callsign, and your account and everything above that belongs to it will be deleted. Backups age out on their own within two months. The same address answers any question about this page.
